Default Difference Between 97 and 01 LS1

I was just wondering what GM did in the 2001 LS1 to get the extra power out of it? I was also wondered what I could do to get my '98 Convertible up to the 2001 specs. Thanks :D

The main differences are the 2001 has a different cam and the LS6 intake manifold. There really is not a big difference between the two cams, the 2001 has slightly more lift with slightly less duration than the 97 cam. If you want more power you are better off going to a good after market cam along with the LS6 intake. Switching to the 2001 cam is not worth the trouble and expense.

The following is something I save from GM when I ordered my 2001:

LS1 = Engine
Plus the following changes/enhancements that are NEW for 2001:
- LS1 Horsepower is increased from 345 @ 5,600 rpm to 350 @ 5,600 rpm.
- Torque increases from 350 lb-ft @ 4,400 rpm to 360 lb-ft @ 4,400 rpm. (375 lb-ft for manuals)
- EPA fuel economy sticker will reflect a full mile-per-gallon improvement
- Oil change interval extended from 10K miles to 15K miles or 1-year
- New intake and exhaust manifolds same as used in the new LS6
- New stronger, larger diameter aluminum driveshaft
- New clutch design also provides for lower pedal effort features greater clamping power to accommodate increased torque for 2001
- New Synchronizers Carbon blocker rings on all manual transmission forward gears to provide for smoother shifts and additional robustness.
- New chrome-flashed exhaust tips
- New Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) battery, which is lighter and more durable
- New slimmer remote function key fob

all that + Z06 block

I agree might as well get a "real" cam in that beast make a healthy improvement not just a step up to a 2001 spec.
