Default Replacement key fob options?

My 2000 C5 key fob stops working within a few hours of re-coordinating it. Installed a new battery so that's not the issue. The dealer says the key fob is defective and I need a new one. $160 for the part and reprogramming.

What other options are there to get back in business with a working key fob? Is there a Forum secret repair or cleaning procedure? Can a less expensive replacement unit be purchased? If so where and would it need to be programmed by the dealer?

I appreciate any input you may have on the issue.

Any advice on how to make sure it is the correct one for my year? Code numbers, frequency, etc.?

Unless you're good at re-soldering a few cold-solder joints on the circuit board, forget repair.

Order by year/part number (on back). Very important. The '01 - '04 units will NOT work. Part number s/b 10432147 The 2000 was kind of a step-child year. It's essentially the same as '97-'99 without the "passive" switch function.

Other than that, you can easily re-synch it just as you have been doing. Do search.

Gene is selling them at $62.40 - GMpartshouse.com

gmpartshouse.com just order the one for the 2000, it's a one year only part number. The 98-99 will work, but it's more expensive and you can't use the passive feature on a 2000, so just order the 2000 for appr $60. Don't buy a used one on ebay, you'll end up in the same shape you are now.

Great advice guys! Thanks for filling me in.

I love this forum. I usually hang out in the C1 area but every now and then my C5 needs attention too...more so recently with 104,000 miles.

p.s. My GM replacement oil pressure sender died after only 3 weeks. But they are replacing it for free under the one year parts and labor warranty.
