I have a 01 Corvette convertible. The BCM went out and didn't have the service column lock before I switched the BCM. I got the BCM off of a 98 coupe. I have pulled fuse 23 and 25, no help. The battery is charged with 12.8v. I switched the Theft deterrent relay.
MY question is do I need to get the BCM reprogrammed? The wheel isn't locked but I can't drive the car because the 2 mph kills the car.

Are you saying you did not have the BCM programmed at all? ...
The car wouldn,t start at all with the old BCM. I finally figured out it was the BCM. I switched my BCM with one out of a 98 coupe. I did the relearn process and the car started and runs. Everything works except it has the "pull key and wait 10 seconds" and service column lock. Now it will not let you go over 2 mph before the car dies. I didn't have any of these problems before I switched the BCM. Do you think the service column lock could have been in the BCM from the 98 coupe? Do I need to take it and have GM reprogram the new BCM with my old options?
My 01 coupe has been displaying "service column lock" as well. Does this mean that the column lock will not engage? or the column lock will suddenly engage while driving?
Not to hijack the thread, but He and I are fighting the same malfunction.

Is the column LOCKED when the message happens? It it LOCKED with the car OFF??
Are you SURE that a 98 BCM is compatable with an 01?????????????
Just because they both LOOK the same,,,, doesnt mean that they function the same or are even wired/pin out the same. Look at the part number on the 01 BCM and compare it to the 98 BCM Call the dealership and see if there compatable (they may not be able to tell you )
Do you have ANY of the dealer GM supplied recall crap like the K harness?? You need to actually examine the column lock connector to see if anything has been installed. Its the small FOUR wire connector under the column You have to remove the panel under the column to get to the column lock motor connector.
For 1 thing the tire pressure receiver won't communicate with the BCM. Same for door lock fobs. There is a thread on the forum about upgrading the early models just for those issues. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...aded-tpms.html
I don't know if it is compatable or not. I know the car wouldn't start. I took a BCM off a 98 coupe plugged it in, did the relearn process, and the car started. The numbers are different on both BCMs. Everything seems to work, windows, door locks, radio, etc. The only problem is the service column lock and pull key error messages. If you go over 2 mph the car dies.
I have read the sticky at the top of the page. I am confused. I thought that a '01 corvette A4 only has to be reprogramed. My column is not lock with key on or off. I had the dealership run my vin and they said that nothing has been done to my column. I haven't looked at the column yet to see if there is anything on the connector. Will look tonight.
