A while back I noticed that the screen for my heater and a/c was extremely dim, and just the other day I've noticed that it sometimes is just totally black with nothing. Once in a while, it will be lit up decently and I can change the temperature and it works just fine, but most of the time now the light is totally off and I can't seem to adjust the temperature when it's like this, it is set at whatever it was last at. Could this be more than just a light going out? It is really annoying not always being able to control the temperature :/ any input is appreciated and sorry if I described this in a really stupid way.
There's a very nice writeup in here about how to repair it or you can possibly send it out for repair. Use the search function for forum member Tstar and you'll see what needs to be done. BTW, I need to do the same thing on mine.

Thank you, I'll go look him up. Hope it isn't too complicated...
The fix is fabulous, costs you nothing for parts, and if you brought it to a dealer, you'd might get out of there for like $700-800 bucks.
I did mine in about an hour last Saturday. I do have the right kind of low watt soldering iron, and I have had the console out many times, so that did speed me up.
The retail is $537, for the control unit, and my best internet GM parts house has it for $240, but you figure the dealer would get 2 hours labor/diagnosis and charge at least $200 labor.
The CORVETTE FORUM is fabulous! I have saved a ton of $ because of this and other Vette sites, but this is the Grand Daddy of them all!
Didn't work for me the first time. Guess I'll have to try it again.
BTW, if you have an automatic the shift lever will have to be in 1st gear. You might consider disconnecting the battery, otherwise you will have the windshield wipers going off and you won't be able to get the surround off.
Point of interest: they call them "surface" mounted for a reason. There are no wires going through the board. If you get too exuberant with the soldering iron you'll have surface mounted resistors sliding around like hockey pucks!
