Almighty Corvette Forum, I need some help trouble shooting a crazy annoying rattle coming from my 02 Z (cam, exhaust and RPM Level 5 tranny)
It started about 2 weeks ago, but doesn't seem to have affected anything driving related. The car idles, accelerates and decelerates just fine. I can only hear the rattle at idle, but it may be because it isn't loud enough to overcome the exhaust, cam or road noise.
I got it up on jack stands over the weekend and checked all the connections and fittings and what not and everything is tight. The rattle definitely comes and goes, but it is present more often than not. It also doesn't change if I have the clutch engaged or disengaged or in gear or neutral.
Any ideas???
You can hear it in both the video clips. The first one, you can hear it, then stop, then start back up.
dude i feel ya, i had a 98 ws6 that did something like that. i adventually put the car up in the air and had my wife rev it up to the certain RPM to make it rattle. it was a damn exhaust hanger.
my advice, jack the car back up and let someone crank the car and slowly rev it up until the rattle comes back. then get under the car and find that sucker. be very carful under a running car and make sure you a STURDY lift system
When I pulled into the parking lot at work this morning, the rattle was in full force. I left the car running and went to the back and put my foot on the tailpipes and applied pressure in mutliuple directions to see if it would effect the rattle and couldn't tell any difference. Didn't change the frequency, volume or anything so I'm having a hard time convincing myself it is an exhaust issue.
I don't hear anything thing metal with a "ting" pitched sound but at work so can't listen to it that high. I would agree about jacking it up and starting it and revving and see what you find. BE CAREFULL!!!!

could be part of the cats rattling around.
Take it to an exhaust shop and disconnect your exhaust

I thought the same thing this morning. When I started it up today, it was rattling worse then it ever has before, then as I started driving it stopped. Didn't rattle at all on my way to work this morning, but the exhaust note sounded different. I couldn't quite figure out how it was different, but it definitely was. The exhaust sound was alot deeper and not real crisp like it usually is. (I have Borla Stingers)
I think I'm gonna try to swing it by EnglandGreen's today.

Nothing so dramatic. The entire guts of his passenger side aftermarket catalytic converter was lodged in his 3inch mid pipe just before the over axle - and it was intact
