Default How much of a wider tire to notice a difference?

Well after all my mods now the car spins pretty good when putting the pedal down 75% of the way in 1st gear. Id like to regain some of that traction. I have 275/40/18 on the rear, would going to a 295/35/18 make a difference? Or should I just stick with a 275 and go with a better tire than these cheapies the previous owner bought?

If so what brand tire is good without getting too expensive and will give me better traction

These questions, always require more questions.. for example.
You said Not too expensive... what does that mean? in other words what is not too expensive for you might be way too expensive for someone else.. or something someone thinks a specific tire is a good price but you may feel its too expensive..

You seem to be wanting more traction.. that would indicate you want a soft tire compound... the softer the better for traction, but... with a soft tire you lose longevity...a good all around tire means its not to soft and not too hard.. but it does nothing extremely well..

The Next best street tire for traction other than a Drag Radial is arguably a BFG g-force KD

Next is this : not all tires come in all sizes..example... you can get a slightly larger foot print but it may limit your choices.

What are the cheapies that are on the car now.

Unless you go with a drag rarial,, traction will always be an issue. I purchased some CCW 505As and thay came with 305 series prellie P Zeros for my 02 ZO6. The absolute worst tire that I have ever used!

I stepped up to some 315 series in a TOYO PROXIS T1R tire. There outstanding and even do well in colder temps.

Yes,, width does make a difference but it is NOT a cure all!

At 450 RWHP, not much holds the car to the ground:

Who's fault it that?

Just kidding

What traction, have to go softer, 100-150 tread rating.

I have Sumitomos, extremely cheap tire. They were on the car when I bought it but I heard they last quite awhile.

My car is up for sale but if I decide to keep it what should I put on thats around $200-250 a tire? Even under $200 would be nice. And what size should I go with. Car is making over 330rwhp

I have Hoosier 'A" 335 rears and only 410 rwhp and I can spin those tires in three gears.

"A" are about the softest tire you can get.

I have a video of me coming out of the chicane at NJMP and spinning a set of Hoosiers A at 80 MPH. Sometimes it just gas management.

BTW for street best tire I used was michellin pilot sport cup. Loved them except the price tag.

Your limit I think would be 285 on a 9" rim is that what your back rim is?

i would hesitate to even do 295s on a 9" wheel.
look up the spec sheets on the tires you want & make sure your wheels are within the recommended width range. that can really change your contact patch
