Were you always forced to do the 1-4 shift at low speed or did the light just come on and you could shift anyway you liked? Your problem usually happens when the cheap resistor in the skip shift eliminator fries. I got a larger wattage from Radio Shack and soldered it in to fix the same code.

It's in the OWNERS MANUAL-it was for gas mileage and avoidance of the gas guzzler tax. On the drivers side of the trans is a plug for the shift solenoid, it the bypass is installed, it will be UNPLUGGED and what looks like a blank will be in the trans and one on the pigtail-the one on the pigtail is the resistor I was talking about.
