Default What block for engine build?

My father and I have been talking about building a car together, but things keep getting in the way. Instead, we're going to start with building an engine and putting it in my Z06. The Z06 engine will be reused for the car (when/if that materializes).

I'll have the following parts to reuse on the new engine..

LG Pro (1 3/4) Headers
FAST 78 MM Intake & Ported TB
ASP pulley
Nitrous kit with 78MM plate

Given all of the parts better suited for a 350ci displacement, I think we're looking for something sub 400ci. I'm not looking to set land speed records, but I'd like to run a 150-200 shot of nitrous through it with a better sense of security than with the stock hypereutectic pistons. I'll also be using 93 octane gasoline.

So the questions are...
Should I stick with the LS6 block? New? Reused?
If I don't stick with an LS6 block, what's an affordable alternative?

The budget will be $6-7K. I'll be doing the engine assembly, install and tuning. I will be purchasing a stroker rotating assembly and aftermarket heads (probably used heads to fit in budget).

PS. I know that I can run 150 shot through this engine for years with the proper safeguards. The engine build is not because I need more performance... it's an experience to share with my father.

Will LS1-style heads and my FAST intake work with an LS3 block? I was under the impression the cathedral ports went away for the LS3, which means my intake won't work with LS3-style heads.

YES but get new heads. Dont use older LS1 or 241 heads.

243 heads on an LS3 block can produce very good power.

or start looking on flebay for an LS6 block. Hinsonmotorsuper cars forum sponsor may help or Scoggin Dickey

Thanks. Fleebay has a "new" LS6 block for $800 at the moment. The only extra consideration for the LS3 is I'll need a cam position sensor extension harness and knock sensor harness? Is the LS3 block better than the LS1/6. If so, how? I've been away from the LSx scene for 6 months or so and my memory is failing me. I remember something about timing chain dampers but that seems pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things. Of course, it'll have a new crank (and reluctor).
