Default Testing Plug Wires

I tested my plugs wires today (in the process of chasing down a 100rwhp gremlin). They ranged around the 750 area in resistance, but one was in the 800s. Are these numbers too high? I don't know much about spark plug resistance to know if there is a problem.

If you go by the letter of the service manual, any resistance reading above 700 ohms dictates replacement.

stupid question, but how do you test the resistance in the wires?

With a meter that will read below 100 ohms.

Most GM OEM plug wires read 330-350 ohms. The spec is 275-700 ohms. If any are on the HIGH side,, I would replace them with the GM Performance Red Wires. There one of the best wires on the market and quality/fit/ finish are OUTSTANDING!!

Gene at GM Parts House house have them for around $60. www.gmpartshouse.com

Best wire on the market IMO is the MSD 8.5mm Superconductor Wire. It lives where others fail and comes with heat protection options from us. 40 ohms of resistance and heat resistant to 400* or 700* with the hi heat boost option.. multi angle terminal, double crimp system does not fail where other wires break from manipulation
AT $58 delivered its the best value on the market for a spark plug wire and one of the best quality, come in red or black.

Default Try using copper wire - 0 Ohms and lots of ignition noise

BTW 700 to 800 ohms is nothing. My Taurus has readings for 2K to 7K.
At 25,000 to 35,000 volts looks like a short circuit.

i didnt like these because there was not a positive click on the spark plug and my metal heat shield boots would not go on. the GMPP wires clicked right in and I was able to retain the boots.

I put a set of Taylor 8mm silicone plug wires on my Zee ... they had a nice click to them and seem to work great.

I bought these less than a year ago and they went to $hitter IMO not a qaulity wire at all. I'm trying the GM red wires that Bill C. recommends i will not wast my money on wires that don't even last a year.

Yes they have a locking system, you didn't get the on all the way it sounds like... Cant blame the wire on user error
You don't need the heat shields the boot is good to 400*F radiant heat temp and heat shield keep you from being able to manipulate the boot properly

My wires are guaranteed for life, I have over 12,000 wires out there and hundreds if not thousands of happy customers.. I don't believe for a minute the regular MSD boxed set failed that quick either. MSD guarantees them for 5 years.. did you approach them?

Your a complete tool. My MSD wires are 100% made in Oregon and guaranteed for life... but you keep on stalking the MSD threads, it gives you something to do.

My wires are guaranteed for life.. show me another wire that does that? They also are rated at about 40 ohms.. are 8.5 mm vs 7mm and have a hi heat silicone jacket.... GM wires need the heat shield to keep from drying out and craking.. MSD does not.

There seems to be a few misinformed people in this thead... one of them is a stalker who always bashed my MSD the other two are just plain misinformed... I can post up the anatomy of the wires if you want to see the real difference and why the MSD terminal are superior... it isn't even close

Taylor and most if not all other wires have breakage issues at the spark plug terminal when they are manipulated... Its an internal break you cant see and 100% effects the way the car performs.

Just installed a set of Granatelli "Zero OHM" wires I got from Byun Speed.

Come with heat shields and are very stout.

I use these on my V also.

I have measured (four wire method) resistance of MSD and stock against these and they are the lowest in resistance of the three.

That's painting with a broad stroke. I would disagree. I put a set of MSD's on my C2 this Summer. Very happy with the quality of the kit, wires, and boots. A very positive click let you know the wires were secure on the plugs/dizzy.

Well, I guess you can chalk it up to my lack of experience, little knowledge of materials.......or perhaps I just got lucky.

$200.00

Don't know where you get your info on "0" ohm, but OBD II approved.
