Default lots of codes

Looking to buy a 2000 coupe, mt, and pulled the codes using the car's system. This is new to me, but it seemed like a lot of codes.

1040, 0338, 2282,2283,2284,2285,1064, dreaded 1255,, 1096, 1016, and 2120.

I'm guessing the ABS is cooked. The BCM, I don't know. Also, why all the battery codes?

Is this car trouble to the tune of a couple of thousand dollars?

If you can, I would clear the codes out and take it for nice a test drive. Then check the codes once you get back.

Those codes might have been in the history for a while...

This is an excellent suggestion - When the PCM is connected too you get a lot of 1096 and 1016 codes etc.

It is also possible the owner never ever cleared the codes before either, might be a huge compilation of codes -

Do you also have the "Letter" to the codes ex: B, P SCM, LDCM, HVAC etc.? this will really help in identifying the actual problems

Here is the list of codes:
http://www.stengel.net/diccodes.htm

Thanks,Matt

When posting the codes you need to post the whole code, eg C1214HC. A history code means that the fault occurred but has cleared and the car has run through a number of ignition cycles without the fault present.

U codes can be posted by a simple power glitch and may not be significant.

Do any of the faults have a "C" as a suffix because those are the ones you need to check out.

Anytime a battery voltage drops below a specified value on the main bus you will get communication errors and associated module errors.

If the battery recently had issues that would be a clue.

Follow the suggestion to clear the codes and take it for a test drive then review what codes appear.

BTW, it is helpful if you look through the list and write down ahead of time, the modules so as each one displays you just have to jot down the codes for each module and not worry about jotting down which module it was.

Powertrain Control Module (PCM)

Traction Control System (TCS), which combines traction control, ABS and, on cars built after 1997, the optional Active Handling System

Real Time Damping (RTD)

Body Control Module (BCM)

Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)

Radio

Heating-ventilation-air conditioning (HVAC)

Left Door Control Module (LDCM)

Right Door Control Module (RDCM)

Seat Control Module (SCM)

Remote Function Actuation (RFA).

When you take it for a test drive after clearing the codes do not go for a 10 minute drive around the block. Get it out and drive it for an hour or so, both in the city and on the highway.

My car sat for two weeks and I took it out. Codes up the @ss. Shocks inoperative, reduced power, low fuel, no air cond, low tire pressure...

Charged battery and it got well.

This is the best advice, but only if you can, I bought a 03 last year, and when I went to revel the DTC, I had about 24, but I was told to erase them and then check again, (Using the C5's own internal reader) and once I did that I took for a 15 minute trip and when I got back, again I checked the codes and only 2 remained !

Even though an old thread, it is best placed in the C5 Tech section.
