Default Steering Locked While Driving

Everytime I mention this to someone I get the same responce word for word,
"I've heard rumors this could happen"

I've got a nice 2000 and love it to death.
But whether its the dealer, people on this site,or just my GM friends I can't
get a definitive answer from anyone.
Why won't somebody step up to the plate?

Perhaps because you did not actually ask a question?

I will try and guess as to what you are asking.

Are you asking is it possible for a steering wheel to lock while in drive?

I have only heard of one report from an owner in hawaii that posted here that it happened to him.

I think the only way this could happen is if the BCM fail sending a lock signal to your lock motor or a signal is sent to the BCM telling it to send a signal to the lock motor. Like bad micro switch. Have you checked out any of the steering lock threads? Best of luck!

What is a lock motor? What does the BCM have to do with this?

Please explain.

Thanks!

I'm getting contrary info from GM and other vis researchers

When I first bought the car I took it in for a oil change and check.
Now one site says I have a open recall.GM says alls clear.
O yeah,my BCM had numerous errors after visit. The best part is no one knows how many times my car has been there.I know there were
know 3 times but they are saying only 2.
Remember I wrecked my car because it would not turn.

How fast were you driving when the column locked?

Did you cost someone their life? You seem more worried about retirement. You do realize their is a "blackbox" that can pull information from the car at the time of the crash.

Did the column lock disable the brakes? How long where you driving straight with a locked column before you crashed into someone?

No,No,No.

Brakes were worthless,I made a hard right then turned left and to avoid hitting I tried to make a hard right but it was locked so I barely slipped in on the rt rear of the JEEP.5 sec.
They're suing me I'm not.

Why are they suing you for 500K? Were they hurt permanently and lose time off work, maimed for life? They are suing your insurance company NOT you...You do have insurance correct?

I reckon their att. started all this.
What happened is what it is.
One vis says it was fixed, another says no,and I now know that no one respects the GM fix.

Yea I sure the hell wouldnt ever drive it again until it was fixed beyond any doubt. If no one could guarantee it was fixed I'd leave the key in it and go park it in a barred windows neighborhood.

But no, Evil Twin has helped me more time than I can think of. Often just by reading his past posts. I don't think he would call anyone an idiot unless they deserved it. Probably not even then. This guy is someone that THINKS he knows,Unlike Evil twin who does.
