I just dyno'ed my new 2002 A4 Coupe at the CorvetteForum Dallas Dyno-Day at Speedworks here in Dallas. RWHP was 300, which is about what I was expecting given that I only have 1,500 miles on the car.
However, on all 3 runs, there was a SHARP drop-off in RWHP and RWTQ at 5,600 RPM's. (On the 3rd run, he turned the Traction Control off). The fuel-to-air went extremely thin corresponding to this drop. They suggested that I take it to the dealership with the Dyno printouts in hand. I did, and the service technician called Detroit to see if there were any new PCM updates that solve this problem. They told him that this is how the 2002's are set-up, and that the only way to circumvent it was to buy a programmer.

I'll look at my dyno runs when I get home from work and compare results with an e-mail to you. I was out there then and dyno'd mine with about 2200 miles on it. I don't remember anything funny happening to the curves which looked pretty much like the stock runs in January except with about 11-12 more hp and much better torque. Unless they turned the traction control “off”, it was “on”, since I did not adjust anything before the runs.

My car displayed the same behavior at 5600 with a dip of about 25 HP. I changed the spark plugs out for some copper ones. Dynoed again and the dip was only about 15HP this time. Still haven't gotten this one figured out.

It's Torque Management. It's intentional on the A4 cars. Remember the A4 puts out 15 less that M6. It does this by limiting the ability to get true full throttle.
Ed Wright can program it out for you. He's doing it for me as part of my 422/ATI programming.

I dynoed my 99 yesterday with out the PLII installed and it did the same thing. I figured it was timing being pulled out by the PCM due to knock. I'm glad it's the T.M. with will be disengaged after I install the PLII.

All 3 of my dyno runs have dips around 5400. Appears to be when the hp and tq curves cross. I was told, that is where the tc converter locks up and it’s nothing to worry about.
Like Superj said, several guys have had good results after replacing the plugs.

are you getting any hesitation on the highway at around 74 mph when you punch it? if so there is a tsb out on the throttle sensor. but looking at your numbers if your stock that isn't that bad. i have seen my dad's 2000 when had it and his 01 auto do the same thing.
