Default Started cam swap...ran into possible problems. Please help!

Hello everyone. Started my cam swap today in an 02 Z06. Everything went pretty smooth until I pulled the old cam out. Upon inspection I found this...

#2 and #6 cylinder only.

Now I know this is a bad thing, and I am assumed that maybe the lifter is locked up. Would that be a fair diagnosis? I hadnt planned on taking the heads off but if I have to put lifters in it I may just order a set of heads while they are off. There was no abnormal valvetrain noise before I started the swap.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Yep, you're gonna find some dead rollers in there. On the bright side, you'll get more of a power gain than you were expecting.

The bad news is your gonna have to pull the heads to replace the lifters. The Good News is your going to get to know the top end of your engine real well

What springs were in your engine? Was this the stock cam?

Yea this was the stock cam, with stock 'yellow' beehive springs.

Like i said there was no noise coming from the valvetrain, it actually ran pretty good. But it looks like it had been this way for a while.

I guess ill pull the heads this week and see whats up with the lifters.

With all that metal missing, I would be seriously looking at flushing out the block somehow as that metal is probably in the oil pan. Not sure how you could get it out of there unless you pulled the whole motor or whatever to get the pan off and cleaned out. Oil filter has to go right now!

Looks like you're getting a chance to make lemonade out of lemons.
Since your LS6 had the 2 piece batwing oil pan, you can remove the bottom section of the pan without pulling the cradle off or dropping the motor out. Not a big deal at all and it'll make it easy to clean the metal out of there.

Absolutley would do the best you could to flush out the eng---Also take the oil filter off and cut it in 2 and see what's in there--could be an indication on how dirty the pan is--

Even if you don't get new heads a valve job does wonders, I would replace lifters do a valve job flush the oil and carry on.

The object of taking the heads off is to access the lifters. You cannot get them out without taking the heads off.
