Default Mantic single clutch from ECS

Anyone on forum running single disc Mantic clutch from ECS. I need to replace my stock Z06 clitch and they are suggesting I do this upgrade. I drive in heavy traffic sometimes so I need a clutch that feels like stock at the pedal. Any opinions? Also thinking of LS7 clutch, who's running that one? My car is an '03 Z06.

I've had it for over 5,000 miles now and have zero complaints!!! Drives like a stock ls7 clutch but holds A hell of alot more power. You won't have any regrets.......it's the best clutch I've ever owned barnone!!!!!!!

I don't have first hand experience of the single disc, but ECS recently installed the dual disc Mantic in my LS7 powered 03Z. I replaced a perfectly good RPS twin lite after driving another car with a Mantic clutch. To say this clutch is easier to drive than the RPS is a ridiculous understatement , it really should be compared to OEM clutches for drivability, not aftermarket units. I've had both LS6 and LS7 clutches before and I can say the Mantic is as easy to drive as either of them. Both the pedal pressure and smoothness/throw of engagement are phenomenal. I've put about 2,000 miles on mine along with two 10 second 1/4 mile passes and no matter the usage, even stop and go traffic, I love it.

While I haven't actually driven a car with the single, I heard very good things, many people compare it to an LS7 for pedal feel, but obviously with the ability to take a lot more abuse. I was able make my old LS7 clutch slip on the street even with my old heads/cam setup.

I purchased the Mantic Single this past summer. I needed a clutch because I had a bad experince with the LS7 kit. All I can say is what an outstanding product!

Chris and Doug said the pedal feel is stock, there is no chatter, and the engagement is butter smooth yet it can hold 700rwhp. At first I was reluctant to put it in because of my past experience with aftermarket clutches. Theres always a compromise. But not this time! As soon as I got in the car and pushed the clutch pedal to start it, it felt so light that I thought I have a hydraulic issue. I was expecting a leg workout. I start it up and head for home.

Let me tell you that Chris and Doug were dead on with how they described this clutch to be! It is butter smooth, the pedal feels even lighter than my stock OEM clutch, zero chatter, no noise in neutral, zero vibrations! Engagement is exactly how oem clutches are. Upshifts and downshifts are very smooth. No "on/off" switch. I can actually drive the vette without having to deal with annoying chatter that used to shake the whole car when leaving on 1st gear. My car is enjoyable again. To also add, I noticed the motor spins much easier now when accelerating. The total weight of the clutch kit is lighter than the Spec3+ which I understand to be one of the heavier kits out there. The Mantic twin kit was weighed at 39lbs so im guessing the ER2 single is probably around 37lbs. A lot better choice than the heavier LS7 kit!

Before my stock bottom end let go, I was hitting gears at high RPMs nice and clean! I highly recommend this "no compromise" clutch!

Doug, what's the weight difference between the Mantic single and the '03 Z06 clutch and flywheel assembly?

The Mantic is slightly lighter, but not by much. IMO going with a lightweight clutch assy on a street car is not the best option. I have some customers that live near you who have the Mantic single, I can PM them and maybe you can meet up and see for yourself how nice they are to drive if your interested.

Why don't you recommend a light weight clutch for a street car especially if the Mantic is lighter then the factory.... I'm kind of confused as to what your trying to say.

I will be considering one for a C6Z down the road but I will be doing heads/cam/etc.

I'm sorry, I'll clarify more. Going with very lightweight flywheel (aluminum) and say a clutch assy that weighs next to nothing makes the car a little more difficult to drive. Adding a H/C set up makes that even worse. Idle issue's, just more of a race car feel which can get tiresome on the street after a while.
The Mantics are lighter, I was referring to an ultra light set up. I am honestly having a hard time articulating the feel of a clutch that is too light weight on the street other then it just doesn't feel right IMHO. If someone can elaborate better then I have as to why, go for it, but I hope that answered the question for you.

Striper can test mine out. Just dont do any 2nd gear burnouts or come out of the parking lot sideways with smoke bellowing out of the wheel wells or anything

I'd be more concerned about how it drives away from a stop under normal conditions or like when you are stuck in stop and go traffic. I'll contact you when I determine if I need to replace my clutch or not. I expect to have it accessible this weekend, then I'll know.

They are literally like stock, very easy to drive yet hold the power.

I'm just getting this clutch installed on my 03 Z and I was wondering if you guys would just recommend the normal 500 break in miles of stop and go. Also I'm having it tuned after it's put in.. Is this a bad idea without having the clutch broken in?

I stopped in the ECS booth @ Carlisle and was lucky enough to test out the pedal feel in the beastly LS7 C5 Z06 they had there. I was SHOCKED how light it was compared to my spec twin. Expletives were spewed due to how awesome the twin disc felt.

Good question considering tuning would involve wide open throttle runs on the dyno. I know when I was in break-in mode, I babied it around town and never floored it till I hit 500 miles.

Sorry I missed your question, You should break in the clutch prior to dynoing at least some, however It is not as bad to dyno right after the install as long as you are not near the edge of what the clutch is spec'd for power wise.
Once the clutch has grabbed (pedal disengaged) it is unlikely that it will let go even on a fresh install. The trouble comes more from WOT shifts where it is trying to stop the inertia of the two surfaces under full power while the discs are not fully mated yet.

Hope that helps!
