Default stock ls1 cam recommendations??

Hey Guys,

Looking to put a cam into my otherwise stock LS1. going to put in the LS2 intake manifold and 90mm TB as well.. Need some recommendations for what cam is best?

Still want it to be streetable but want something that will help me more in the drag race scene and for open tracking the car.

Thanks in advance

228 230, 581, 585 113 LSA Comp Cam with hardened 7.4 push rods and Patriot Gold springs.

Other engine mods:

VRB2 Air intake
Dynatec Supermaxx LT headers/ HF cats
Corsa Catback
160 Thermostat
Dyno Tune - conservative/safe tune on 91 Octane

My car is also a MN6 with stock clutch.

Car dyno numbers 365 RWHP, 374 RWTQ.

With the VRB2 effect above 50-60 MPH the car is nearing 400/400.

I wouldn't want anymore lift or LSA than my setup. My car is very streetable but you never forget about the cam. Nice lope and a gentle shake at idle.

I plan to upgrade the heads and intake manifold but I am in no hurry.

Hope this helps!

243 heads flow well to 575-580 valve lift

Good point. 241 heads currently but I will likely be upgrading to 243 heads in the future at the very least. Will most likely end up buying a set up aftermarkets (hopefully some used AFRs) down the road.. think it would be best to have the 241s ported/polished vs. aftermarkets from a cost/benefit standpoint??

I would look at the LS6 intake (all later years had this) rather than the LS2. It flows better.

Dont do a cam until you can do the heads and timing chain at the same time

Yessir, agreed. Have seen plenty of dynos showing how well the LS6 manifold compares to the other LS-series intakes.

Have the LS2 timing chain ready to go in with the cam swap. Do you know if I can do the cam/timing chain swap without dropping the oil pan? heard something about having the drop the oil pan or move the oil pump, etc. but not sure on the accuracy of that? Thanks!

I just did a cam swap on a 02 z and I didn't have to touch the oil pan.
