As long as the connection is good, the gage of the wire isn't all that important. The most I have ever seen on initial connection is 8 amps and there are SMALLER wires in most of your interior circuits carrying that much by design.
I don't feel it makes any difference either and the wires are wrapped around tight and I don't touch anything while taking measurements, not to mention I can see change in the amps as I open and close doors, etc but i might try and get some different wires next time just to make sure
The BCM enters the SLEEP MODE, 8-12 min after
the vehicle is shut down and ALL electrical loads are secure.
The DC Amp meter needs to be placed in SERIES with the NEG Cable.
8-12 min after its connected, in series the BCM should enter the sleep/security mode if all loads are off/secure.
Maybe someone can post an electrical diagram of the start circuit for his C-5? It is fairly complicated . When I had this problem, it was the fuse mentioned. It wasn't blown, just not making contact in the fuse box. Replacing the fuse and using a conductive lubricant will fix that part. Hope this helps. Listen to Bill. He's the expert on here. Good luck!!!
I think you are on the right track looking toward starter area. We had similar situation. Black wire from battery side terminal on solenoid seems to be touching starter terminal. This could be causing a low current drain situation.

As Bill says the wire gauge is ok. Just checked a wire chart:
14 gauge wire: 32 amps
16 gauge wire: 22 amps
18 gauge wire: 16 amps
20 gauge wire: 11 amps
So he is correct.
My concern is the wire wrapped around the meter probe might be slightly loose and jiggle. If I were troubleshooting a problem like this, I would just clamp it to make sure and eliminate that possibility.
A small updated, I am in the last steps of taking the starter out but as I was disconnecting the wires off the far left post on the starter solenoid I noticed something I could easily wiggle the post, it seems to be very loose unlike the other posts which do not move or wiggle, I will look more closely as I pull the starter out.
Ok a big update the starter was taken out and tested today and the starter failed the test, as a result I will be ordering the new starter for $184 tomorrow.
The real question is will this solve all the problems with the electrics or not, that remains to be seen, thanks everyone for all the help.
Sorry that I haven't updated this thread but a new starter was installed about a week ago, and the car started right up and drives fine with no codes. However as others already predicted this is a 2 part problem as after letting my car sit for 5 days it has hit a low voltage and the battery is almost dead. I will look further into this problem tomorrow.
