Re: Another flood victim.. Bye bye C5! :( (J99FRC)
Sorry to hear about your C5. Hope and pray they total it. A friend of mine had the same type of accident. They fixed his car and it was NEVER right. He traded it for a new one. Most inportant is that you are OK!!
By the way, your car is beautiful  . The new one will be even nicer. Best of luck to you!!!!!

Thanks for all the replies!
I will find out either today or tomarrow whats going to happen.. Over the weekend I contacted the local chevrolet dealer and they want $12K+ just for a LS1 and install... He mentioned that the clutch might need replacement aswell.. Which is fine with me... He did say they will install a '01+ LS1 and Z06 Clutch..
Question thought, I noticed when I went out to my car the other day to get some stuff outta it, everything was resetted.. Maybe this water did make it to the electronics.. If I would have had a stock breather I am sure it would have sucked it up aswell.. Debri is un-top the motor! I will keep you guys posted!
This forum has been great, wouldn't be suprised if it's #1.. thanks guys!
Really, although insurance companies use different calculations, figure if the cost of repairs run to 70-80% of the current value of the car, its considered a total loss.
Even if the damage to your car doesn't reach that, they will most likely consider this a "Constructive total loss" which means that though it didn't hit the limits, there will most likely be constant problems (supplements in insurance talk) to make it not worthwhile to repair.
Generally, if it was SALT WATER, its ALWAYS totalled....
In your case, if the water goes over the hood, even in fresh water, its a constructive total loss.
Do us a favor here...if and when they total it....post the VIN number so that we can all make sure that no one buys it from a dealer in 6 months as a "used car" ...Carfax doesn't always show "constructive total losses" as salvage titles because some companies don't report them that way to increase the salvage value they can get for them.
YES!!! The car's value will significantly reduced if it is fixed anyway. You may acutually be able to get more than it is worth with Book Values being currently higher than the market will bear.
You may also be able to remove any undamaged mods before the car is taken by the insurance (will help reduce part of your loss).

Sorry to hear about the vette...its probably going to be totalled. Hopefully the insurance company will give you a fair settlement.
I had this happen to me once. It was not a Corvette, but it was totalled. If this happens, just remember that you need to negotiate something fair with them. They will try to lowball you. If you have any mods or recent service (e.g., a new exhaust), make sure you can document this. It just provides more ammunition for you to get a better settlement. When I did mine, they made an offer, I argued back and forth until they came up with something reasonable, and then **after that** I provided them a list and recepits for all the recent things I had done (new tires and exhaust) and they compensated me for that, too.
