Well, the Thursday night rains here in Texas claimed my C5.. To the story...
The Accident - About 12am thursday night I encounter a severe downpour in Burleson which resulted in me trying to pull over to see where the hell I was going. The downpour was so severe the water started rising quickly and I tried to retreat to higher ground but soon ended up sucking water up my intake and immediatly locked the motor up causing me to loose total power a slammed into a curb head-on.. The water began to rise all the way to the top of my hood with me watching helpless.. Very damaging images.. The curb I hit was about 10" tall.
The damage - Looks like a need a new motor, bumber cover, everything under the bumber cover, drivers side fender, carpet, fenderwell and other misc I can't see..
Question.. When does a insurance company decide to fix, or total a car??? Or does anyone have an idea how much the repair will cost?

Sorry Man!
Have said many times.. No Underwater Snorkels for FL, TX or the Carribean. Louisiana too.. I'm sure you put a smile on Ernie's (BPP) face. At least he made some profit.
Just a warning for others.
On a good note, you should be covered by your Auto Insurance for flood damage. Not trying to be harsh, just want the message to sink in for the rest who buy snorkels.
Sorry to hear. No such thing as 'just drive around the puddle' BS.

Seems like since the water rose hood level you would've been screwed regardless. At some point in that kind of mini-flash-flood even a non-snorkel car would probably have sucked in water.
Sorry to hear this happening to your beautiful frc. Thank God you're OK. Good luck with the repairs/resolution.

DIfferent companies use different rules of thumb, but most either consider the vehicle a total loss when the cost of repairs approach 80% of the vehicle's value or when the cost of repairs plus salvage value exceed the value of the vehicle.
Most insurers won't try to fix a flood damaged car if the water gets over the floorboards, because they know that even if they fix it now, problems may crop up in the future and the insured will present claim after claim after claim for ongoing problems. Chances are, yours will be totalled.

:cry Dude, you should probably push to get the car totalled. All the water that was taken in will spell trouble for all of the computer/electronic equipment in these cars. These are not headaches you will want down the road.
