As suggested, pull your codes using the DIC. If the CEL is on, a code IS there.

OK,,, here are a few things for you to check. The lean code could be a vacuum leak. Check ALL the vacuum lines "especially" the PCV hose. The PCV hose is well known to ROT and cause a leak.

As for the U series DTC,, they are important and tell a story. They could have been caused by a low battery.

Make sure that the battery is fully charged and in good condition, and if it low recharge it. While its recharging, look at all your vacuum lines and make sure that there in good shape. Also check the connections from the MAF to the throttle body and make sure they are properly fitted and secure so there are no leaks.

Hope this helps.

Recommend that you always include the year C5 that you have in the opening post. You have an 04 (I went and looked) which has a completely different PCV system that earlier cars 2000 and earlier. Some people who will try to help wont look may not provide you info for the correct year..

thanks Bill,
yesterday I went out to find the battery dead. I got it started
and the CEL was off. maybe I cleared it the day before when I was getting the codes out. who knows. I took the bridge and the rest of the duct work off the intake( the varamm parts are very thin.) checked all the lines under the covers. the single bent PCV line seems fine a little soft but ok put everything back together. the car runs great and always has. the light is off for now we'll see if it comes back. I don't drive it enough thanks again. Jim

That PVC line/connection tube, can develop holes in it that are not easily seen...happened to mine. If its soft, replace it now. You can use fuel line from any store will work just fine.

Just in case you haven't looked yet the code that is causing your issue is the P0171 which indicates that bank 1 (driver's side) is running lean. Lean codes are actually pretty common with vararams... did you just install your intake or have you had it for a while? Do you have a Z06 or a base C5? If a base, has your MAF been de-screened?

There are several things that can cause lean codes. See this post (one of many on the subject) for more info...

the intake has been on for 5 or 6 years now. the light came on 6 months ago. MAFis not descreened. 04 Comm ED. all stock except for the varram and the bridge.
