The Amsoil ATF meets all of the GM specs. In addition, it makes shifting much smoother than staying with what came installed in the MN6. It also is much more heat tollerant than standard ATF. If you drive the car hard or race, it may be well worth while down the "road" a bit.
So what's the reasoning for running ATF in an MN6 instead of series 2k gear lube (75w90?)? I ask because I'm getting ready to make a large amsoil order and I want to run it in the 5spd of my WRX. Which should I run, and why?
ATF is used in many of todays manual transmissions because it decreases "pumping" losses of high viscosity gear oil, increasing the fuel efficiency of a vehicle. You can't switch oil types, as the bearing clearances and syncros are designed specifically for a particular oil viscosity.
I put the Amsoil in last Wednesday and haven't heard any "funny" sounds coming from either the diff or tranny. Mileage has increased to 30.3. I wonder waht it would do on flat terrain? Thanx for all the responses. Also the Mobil1 in my Z28 seems to be working well. Rad
