I am curious if anyone has any specs on the frame of the c5? Is it aluminum? I would like specs of the width and lengths of certain sections of the frame if there are any drawing of it.
Thanks a lot!

Copied from the GM manual. I'm guessing this isn't for working on a Vette?
Thanks.
Yes. I am considering eventually buying a wrecked c5, and doing some extensive modifications to fit the entire chassis under a 2nd gen firebird.
The second generation f-body has a 4" longer wheelbase. You would have to stretch the frame on the corvette. It is an interesting concept, if you are trying to get Corvette driving dynamics on a Firebird, you are probably better off taking the parts off of the Corvette frame and putting them on the Firebird.

I would try and plan on chopping the Firebird shorter and not stretching he C-5. If you tried to stretch the C-5 wheel base, you will have to do it in the torque tube and prop shaft as that is what sets it's length.

Good luck with your project.
Alot of work here and some cost even if you do the work yourself.. Plus what will the weight diff be to per say as close to 50 to 50 weight on the car. What are you looking at doing with the car after it is done. Race car, low rider, are show car. More info here...

The year of the F-body may matter. My '80 didn't have a full frame. It was pretty common to buy subframe connectors to add more rigidity. The Firebird is a tad narrower, but not by much but it is something that needs to be considered.
The car was a lot of fun, but in stock trim it was a little scary at higher horsepower levels. The vette is much more composed and I have much more power than my Firebird did. It will depend on what you are trying to do and the purpose.
There is a long history of people swapping Corvette brake and suspension components into other cars. A proper rack-and-pinion set up would do wonders for an F-body. Even with the WS6 package, the steering was still a little numb and felt overboosted.

My plans for the car would be a light track car and also a nice driver. I want it to be fun, but also streetable. The torque tube, what material is it made of?

Aluminum. The more dificult issue with stretching it will be the wiring from the firewall back. All the harnesses will need modified or remade from scratch. The driveline mods will cost a bunch as a one off custom piece is your only route as no kits for anything. Fuel lines just came to mind also....
