Violent backfire at WOT, stumbling.
My 98 c5 violently backfires if you go WOT, sounds like a bomb going off (no kidding its scary loud) and the car stumbles like crazy. Only does it at WOT, its fine cruising around and what not.
What do you guys think it can be? Anyone had similar situations? And no its no just "backfire" i mean its so loud sounds like a gun going off!

I had issues like this some time back and it was a small crack in a plug wire that was shorting and arcing to the header. Check your plug wires in the dark, maybe even wiggle them a bit with a nonconductive material.

PLUGS & WIRES,,, first stab! Thats where I would start! When the issue happens,, look at the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT and see if its flashing...
If you immediately read the DTCs using the DIC (and NOT turning the key to OFF) You will / should see a P-0300 DCT H
Most issues like this are caused by misfires.

When this happened to my C5 I'm pretty sure I did exactly as Bill states and then I noticed the arcing wire.
