Recently developed a leak between the pump and the block, so figured if its coming out i might as well do the pump as well.. (35K Miles) I didnt see much posted with it leaking there so i don't want to do the gaskets and have to replace the pump shortly after the gaskets...
i did a search and didnt see what everyone is using for a replacement. Should i run a OEM/ACDelco or one from the parts store? i can get them within $20 of one another.. i would normally opt for the OEM... I also have the OEM updated water pump gaskets ordered (only ones listed or the 04Z). I also noticed a Edelbrock one for another $100 that is listed as a high flow (16.5%), my car doesnt run as high as i have read alot of others post so i don't know if i should spend the money for the Edelbrock..
Did the same at 98000, saw a small leak up against the block. Went with AC Delco, afyter doing it saw an article about the gaskets failing and a new orange gasket material replacing the old black material. Its actually an easy swap out.
Tip: get 6 metal rods slightly smaller then the bolt diameter and about 1/2 inch longer than the pump bolts. When you go to reinstall the pump use the 6 rods as guide pins.. gaskest are held in place (no need to gunk them up) pump slides on perfectly, pull a rod put in the bolt .. torque to spec ...

thanks for the prompt replies. I got the OEM pump $200 (most others locally 160-180) wanted to get it done by the weekend so i just got it locally from my dealer along with the 04 gaskets for like $5ea (incase they didnt come with them) . LMAO, list on the pump is $360 (what a crock).
looks pretty straight forward... I was reading the 04 WP gaskets are better then the older ones so i would also run thoes when you replace the pump. I have been busy so i should have it done this week. here is a quick google search turned up. http://www.digitalcorvettes.com/foru...d.php?t=129941

I used the original bolts to hold the gaskets in place instead of metal rods. Tie a string around the bolts at the threaded ends to hold the gaskets from falling off until at least two bolts are started on each side, then cut the strings and remove. I used rubber bands the first time but they tend to wrap around the bolts you are trying to get started.
Good advice. i will keep that in mind when doing it. I Did get a new Stant 189* (OEM rating) t-stat and both Serp and AC belts. Does the water neck (T-stat housing) have a seporate gasket.. Just thought about that cause i didnt get one, the Tstat came with a seal but nothing for the housing.
I install with 2 bolts each side; then pull the pump fwd off the block to be sure I caught both holes
Be advised, 2004 GM changed the water pump to use the newer LS2 style Tstat
the 'new' orange seals noted in the thread started back in '99, pretty sure in 2004/5 GM switched to a black material(like the front cover/crank seal has switched from grey to black)
Is anyone using any RTV on the gasket to help build a thicker layer? I like the rod idea for holding the gaskets in place. Any idea what diameter and length it was you had? Do people reuse the bolts or get new ones?
How does that Bosch pump compare to the OEM? I have read elsewhere to get OEM gaskets and pitch any that come with the pumps, anyone else suggest this or does it really matter?

Also use new bolts if old ones are really bad - from corrosion, etc. If re-using old ones, clean the threads and apply a thin film of anti-seize not only to the threads, but the shank as well.
