The 1999 Corvette C5 with the LS1 Pushrod V8 motor has 345 @ 5600 RPM's and a 13.36/109 estimated quarter mile time. I would like to know why my best quarter mile time is only 13.86. I have been driving manual tranny's all of my life and consider myself a pretty good driver. I should be able to get more out of the car than a 13.86.
Track conditions, weather, driver variances. Every car is different. My 01 stock ran 13.6 I did not think that was all that good. With some minor improvements and some track time I am now down to 12.70 and I still think I can better that with the right track conditions and more seat time.
All depends on how hard you launch it. If you have sticky tires you can dump the clutch at a higher RPM to get out of the hole faster (the first 60' or a race is where you make or break the total run). Also some people shift faster than others. You can shift pretty fast and still lose 2 tenths in the 1/4 compared to someone powershifting (not lifting off the gas during a shift).
I am sure there is more left in the car, you just have to take some time to learn thi scar and how to drive it fast at a track. My girlfriend is a great driver but when I got her to a track she was consitantly .5+ sec slower than me and that is im my auto let alone a stick. Practice, practice, practice. :)
There is always room for improvment, and some cars are just faster than others. We have members that have been into high 12s stock and GMHP mag (Evan Smith) ran the fastest stock time to my knowledge- 12.6s.
