Default Tire Issue?

I noticed the front tires (original GY Eagles) on my 2004 ZO6, the surface of the outer diameter tread feels kinda rough to the touch....but the inner tread feels smooth. Anyone know what would cause this? Got about 17k miles on them. Both tires are wearing evenly.

Its an alignment issue. Your Camber adjustment is off. You have too much POSITIVE Camber. The TOP of your wheel is adjusted too far out causing the outside edge of the tire to take most of the wear.

Its very common on C5 Corvettes for this to be an issue. Just get a decent 4 wheel alignment..

MAKE SURE that the alignment shop take great care to make SURE that the steering wheel is dead nuts centered when your car is driving straight don a flat road. If not, it will effect your active handling.

Thanks for the reply.
The thing is, the tire (inside & outside) looks to be wearing evenly, it's just that the outside feels a bit rough, & the inside feels smooth.
Is that still a camber thing?
Also, aren't ZO6's aligned with extra negative camber?

The Z has a slight negative camber which is why the inside tread shows a smoother tread wear. This is a common thing we find on cars ( the slightly rough edge wear pattern)whose tires are not rotated regularly. It doesnt really seem to hurt them though, unless combined with weak shocks or poor balance.

I agree rear alignment issue---- quite commom to have different wear patterns from inner edge to outer on --For me I decided to get a rear alignment when i went to the car wash after a long trip and saw a "dusting" of rubber all over the back of the car !!

Hard cornering will do that.
