Default Drivers information switches.

Sorry if this is a common question, but I did a search with no luck. I normally have been hanging out in the C4 section. I looked at a 98 and two 99 vettes, and they all had problems with the drivers information switches (right side of cluster). The switches don't work, but there are no other lights on. One was stuck on odometer in the display, and the one I bought, high mileage 99, is stuck on change oil. although the mileage flashes for a second or two on start up. The guy I bought the car from said he had problems with it before, and they "re-did some wire or something" to fix the car temporarily, but in a year or so it stopped again. My question, is there a fix like on the AC controller, or are the switches bad or the BCM? It seems kind of odd three cars would have this problem, though a FRC I looked at a year or so back had the problem too.

Take the dash apart and hope that they didn't do anything crazy to the wires. Sounds like the contacts on the buttons need to be cleaned or replaced. Not sure if they are easily servicable or if the entire thing has to be replaced.

You can replace the DIC switch but it's a dash out job:
