Default After header Install?

Installed longtube headers, x-pipie etc.. on my "99" automatic coupe.
The car runs great but I removed the A.I.R. system and blocked off the flanges on the headers with the blockoff plates and after a day i got the check engine light. checked codes and got code p-1415 and p-1416 which I cleared. I re- installed the A.I.R. system and the check engine light has not returned. My question is does it make any difference in the performance of the car whether or not the A.I.R. system is hooked up or is it just cosmetically better and cleaner looking? I don't want to get a dyno tune right now but I know they can tune out the A.I.R. stuff when they do a tune. The car just didn't seem to run as strong after i put the A.I.R. stuff back on but It could be my imagination I suppose

Its a severe case if IMAGINATIS!!

The AIR system has NOTHING POSITIVE or NEGATIVE to do with power, performance or idle.

All it does is inject cold fresh air into the exhaust at cold start to speed up CAT light off. Then its suppose to shut off after a few minutes.

It does run at certain times during cruise as a PCM directed test. It changes the primary O2 Sensor readings a specific amount. The PCM knows how much its suppose to change and that test is used to test the output of the A.I R. system and to make sure it working correctly.

So,, it shouldn't have any effect.

That explains why, before I turned out the light with HPTuners, it set the code as I was cruising instead of at startup. (I never researched it, just turned the light off.)

Thanks,

Steve
