I need to fix the tackometer problem, the cluster was checked and all wiring are connected everything works on cluster except the tachometer (rpm) can you please give me an advice how it can be fixed.thanks.
I would check the wiring diagram. I don't have a manual but you should get one and look at the diagnostic procedure. It will give you the step by step procedure on how to discover your problem.
If you have the stainless bezels around the gauges, check to see if the tach one is loose. Just noticed this on my son's Z06. The needle works off and on. Need to remove gauges and re-glue the bezel.
I have had a 2001 C5 since new. At ~80K miles, the tachometer quite. Hitting the dash could not coax it to work. Under my extended warranty, my dealer replaced the instrument cluster, transferred the actual miles on the odometer, and returned the car to me. All worked fine until recently. Now, with 120K miles, the tach works sometime and when it stops, a hit or two on the dash will convenience it to start counting again. When it stops working, there also is no counter display on the HUD. I have cleaned the grounding posts in the engine compartment and have disconnected the negative side of the battery for over 10 sec. I haven't seen any other courses of action for this problem on the forum.
If I pull the cluster, does anyone know if the problem could be cold solder joints on the circuit board similar to the experience I had with my HVAC head? Resoldering the HVAC circuit board restored its display. Could this be the same problem with the tach?
Open to suggestions.

YES!! The gages are ribbon connected to the main board. Pull the cluster out and take the back off the IPC and you will see what you have to do. Remove the screw rub clean the ribbon connection and reinstall the screw. It could also be a poor connection where the ribbon plugs into the main board (most likely the issue)
Here are some cool post for your reading enjoyment:
First, thanks for the timely response to my tach issue. Your dedication to this forum is outstanding and appreciated. Since my tach issue is an intermittent problem that a jolt to the top of the dash temporarily fixes, I didn't think your extensive article on grounding would solve the problem. Nor did I have confidence that disconnecting the battery would be the simple fix but I had to eliminate possibilities. Also, thanks for the DIC link (http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...post1570380674) posted by Chevy406. That's a great piece of cluster disassembly documentation. Pictures are worth a thousand words.
Speaking of pictures, it's apparent that I will have to remove the instrument cluster. I have disassembled the front of my dash before but never gone so far as Mike99FRC's picture in his post of http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...post1570380878. Do you or some other forum member have good documentation on the disassembly of the dash for the removal of the instrument cluster? I would appreciate that forum web link before I proceed. Once I have the cluster out, it sounds like exposing the intermediate fault with the ribbon connections is all down hill.
Thanks again for your help.

Looks like someone decided to hijack your thread. I will try to help you.
Pull your codes and see if anything comes up.
Do you have HUD and if you do is the Tach working there?
Also, I agree to disconnect the battery for a few minutes.
It may be in the IPC but I would like to eliminate other reasons before you end up pulling the IPC. Not at home now but will look at the FSM later.
Thanks, if you start another thread and provide a link in this one it would be great and it will keep this one from getting too big and confusing. Seems to be a flurry of IPC issues lately.
Had same issue. The tach runs off one pun going into the cluster. Connector is on left side at the rear. The rpm signal pin is loose. Remove the cluster, reseat the pins in the connector, and glue those bad boys into the connector. Once dry, reconnect. Issue gone for good.

I tried this and had no luck. I'm stumped as I've done everything I've read and nothing has changed
If you change the odometer reading by itself, the car’s computer will recognize the value has changed and made it flash. Or you can try using a mileage stopper that you can get on this site
