I tried to search and failed, anywho, my outside temp constantly reads 20-25* cool. I remember reading something about cleaning it, and I found it I think (blue/black plug in front of the engine), however don't remember how/what to clean. Thanks for the assistance.
You don't have it set to C instead of F do you? If it's consistantly lower, you probably need a new exterior sensor. They're just a few bucks and plug in.
I doubt you're looking in the right place if you're looking around the engine. The sensor is on the passenger side of the housing bringing air into the front of the radiator down near the bottom. It's on the outside of the plastic with the probe tip sticking into the air flow. You'd see the black platic tip if you are looking into the rad opening.
Yeah I'm in the right hole (dang that just sounds wrong), had to order the part & hope to install this weekend. Will post how that goes, thanks to all for ur assistance.
I have a 99 and have the same problem, except only about 7 degrees colder than actual air temp.
I am glad I stumbled across this thread. I just bought the car a couple of months ago and hadn't gotten around to investigating it yet. This gives me some good things to look at and that it sounds like an easy cheap fix. (that never happens for me).
Did that part number apply to all years of C5's?
What year car does the OP have?
I am trying to find out how similar mine is to the posts in this thread.
OK, so I changed my sensor & checked the wiring...still reads 66*. Is there a fuse/reset for this or something else I'm missing? Oh yeah outside temp is currently 81* so I know it's wrong, thanks.
Purchase an "Outside temp sensor".....they cost around $15.00 and an easy install (minutes). Located on front frame rail near your head light on the right side.
Did you drive the car? The manual says a certain speed for a certain time, don't remember the specifics, but it's not far.
I fought this on my 99 for a while. I had a bad sensor and a corroded female connector. Grounds may have been corroded so i cleaned them also. After getting these right, it took about 20 min of driving to relearn to get the correct OAT.
