Has anyone filled noticed how much coolant a C5 holds when it is completely dry? The specs say about 3 gallons but I drained 2 1/2 gallons out of mine and am thinking surely there is more than 1/2 a gallon in the block & heater core. I am flushing it with distilled water and want to get the mix right when I put in the dex-cool.
I just had my coolant system flushed two months ago as part of a complete fluid swap.
I just had my 04' tuned by Chuck COW and I now need to install a low temp thermostat. I plan to drain the coolant, install the new temp and then refill with the same coolant since it is still basically new.
After I turn/open the drain **** (I think it was named by the same GM Engineer who designed the DIC) and let the coolant drain, how much coolant will be left in the hoses and/or engine block?
Once the fluid is drained and I remove the temp stat housing, should I expect a lot of coolant to drain out of the engine block? I thought that the temp stat seal needs to be dry in order to seat properly.
Also, after the new low temp stat is installed, when pouring the coolant back in through the overflow tank how much should I put back in before I restart the car? Then, how long should I run the engine between adding more coolant? Assuming, I don't spill any extra coolant, I should simply add back what I originally removed correct?
