I know there are a million choices and a million different reasons for each cam..
My question is how did you guys decide what cam to put in your car?
There isnt a whole lot of cammed LSX motors around my area to listen to or drive..
I did have a 69 Camaro with an LS1 that I put a Texas Speed Magic Stick 3 in. I liked the cam but I think I want something that makes power a little lower in the RPM range this time.
I did really like how choppy it was though.
Getting a LOWER LSA will make it choppier--A 112 is mostly used for that--For more power and more importantly Torque- a lower duration in the mid 220's wil keep the peak HP & TQ below 6000--- and lower down in the 3000 range -- With a 6 speed you can get away with a bigger cam than an A4 with a STOCK converter--Old school method is to do all your homwork and research 1st -pick a cam--then go one size bigger !!! If smog is not an issue and If it were my car I would still get something in the low .230's--Especially with a 6 speed--- A .220 cam will limit the HP gain to about 25-30 RWHP but a .230 ish cam could result in as much as 35-50 RWHP gain ---You already have plenty of head with your 243's and have a LS6 intake and the bigger cam will benefit greatly--You may just have to adjust your driving style a bit---------
Do your homework and determine what your goal is. otherwise you may end up replacing the replacement cam which is what I did. Went from a TSP 224R to a TSP Torquer V2 as my goal was low 11s. Just depends on what you want.
Even with a cammed Z06 low 11's is optimistic---Traction will become an issue--as well as finding the perfect launch RPM--Too high and you will spin the tires--too low and it will bog--takes lots of track time to sort it out--Wheel hop is also a problem on Z's and a killer of drive axles--It really shocks the drivetrain--An A4 with a stall is more draivetrain friendly--
