Default Good cam for stock C5

Hey fella's. I currently own a 1999 FRC, with a CAI and catback. Next thing I would like to do is a cam. I live in Cali, so I must stay smog legal. Im going to be 100% honest, I really don't care if I gain 40rwhp from a cam swap. If I made 10 extra ponies, that would be fine. I just love the sound of cammed ls1, and its really all Im looking for. I just drive the car on weekends really, and to a few local meets.

From digging around, seems a 224r is a decent smog cam for a stock LS1. As stated before, I don't care if I make a ton of power. I dont race it, just drive it, so i would like something streetable.

Guess my question is really, will the 224r be a nice, streetable cam, with a bit of chop?

Im sure I may get dogged, but I wouldnt doubt, that theres more people than not that just buy a cam because they sound cool, Im just not afriad to admit it I guess.

all of the sound clips i have heard of the 224 hasnt shown a lot of chop but it will give you a decent power boost. a cam swap is a whole lot of money for just sound. that is why most people do it for performance, you are looking at cam springs, gaskets, tuning, etc

if you miles are low, I bet you could just slide that little 224 in and go

I would look at the G5X1 on a 112 from LG. It is a 228/232 cam and is very strretable. I had this cam in my LS2 for a while and loved it. It is also very blower friendly if you every decided to add FI in the future. The cam is tried and true, and an easy 40-50 to the tire.

Default G5x1E

LG has the G5x1E camshaft for emissions.

There are a couple of C5 members here that use that cam.
