Thanks for the help. My steering wheel doesn't lock with the key out, but there's nothing installed I can see under the steering column either (I've got the console, radio bezel, drivers side knee panel, and instrument cluster removed for an LED upgrade). Maybe I've got the LMC5 installed or a GM recall done. I'll check the BCM & see what it looks like.
It sounds like you have the Recall performed by GM. But that does not eliminate most of the issues like the fuel cut off. I followed the advice of other members ands decided to order the LMC5.
I ordered my LMC5 and am waiting for the unlocker to come in. My 02 coupe mn6 has the recall done in 04 and still I get the steering column lock crap. So I'm going to get it done this weekend. Oh yeah, call any GM dealer and give them the last 6 digits of your vin, they'll be able to tell if you car had the recall done. Good Luck.

Yes, the column lock motor does run when I turn the key on/off but not when I insert the key. I've just received the GMVIS list of recalls/service which indicates my car had the computer reprogrammed (04006) in November '04 and some subsequent steering column service done that I'm trying to translate. I've determined there is no CLB & a version of the recall has been performed. I've ordered an LCM5.
Installed the LMC5 upgrade and it was easy but took longer then 20Min. Verified the steering column no longer locks but now I get the 10 sec pull key message but not all the time. Just the first time, after its started and cruise around, it doesn't come back. I pull the key and wait 10+ sec and all is well. No steering column lock, no 2 MPH engine shutoff. So can someone tell me do I need to wait for the system to adjust or what?

Did you unplug the column lock relay above the BCM? (the one on the right ... 5 wires, 2 of which are orange)
I too installed the LMC5 and in the direction, you have to pull OUT the relay. I had the GM "Y" Purple wire from the BCM to RELAY to SOLENOID. I get no "PUll Key wait 10 sec", no gas cut off and NO MORE SOLENOID movement. Love that LMC5. Just follow the instructions. I called Rick because the UN-LOCK kit didn't UNLOCK my solenoid, we did everything, Rich was great, he did more research and called me back, it was the best support on line I ever had from any vendor. My solenoid was jamed and only tapping that sucker made it release.. What's great about the LMC5, you can leave all that GM fix on the vette, leave that sticking solenoid, you don't have to remove anything. Just install the LMC5 at the BCM simple 3 wire install, cap the old wires, wire tie the LMC5 remove the relay (if you have a 6 speed manual) and install the ground wire to the aluminum BCM body, DONE, easy, no more problems... ever..
Note you have to return everything back to the original STOCK setup, tap that solenoid, and then if and when it releases, pull the batterey off the vehicle (Don't take the KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION or the solenoid will lock the wheel AGAIN). Then with the battery lead off, install the LMC5 per instruction.. it worked for me.
