Default TPMS Magnet

I was looking at some new wheels and tires on Tirerack.com and some Vette catalogues. I noticed an extreme variance between the cost of the magnet thingie to activate new TPMS's; Tirerack wants like $16 and the catalogues say about $150. Does anyone have the real story behind this?

Yeah, save your money and use the magnetic ash tray from your tool box. Works fine!

Practically any magnet will work if you program the TPMS sensors before they're installed. Just label them appropriately and program them from the comfort of the driver's seat.

Get the cheapest magnet you can but just make sure it's strong enough.

A magnet which is too weak will not program the sensor and you wont hear a beep.

I just used an old speaker magnet on my OEM wheels but it wasn't strong enough for my Crays. I bought a ring magnet on E Bay for abot £4. It doesn't work if you hold it above the TMP sensor. By accident it clamped to the rotor and "beep" and I was off

I ground a magnet off an old speaker, drilled out the center and it and it works prefect. (Probably didn't need the hole in it but it looks cute and makes hanging it on the pegboard easier.

Thats funny stuff!! you can go to places like northern tools or harbor freight and get them for 2-3 dollars and not have to wait for them to ship. But if you dont like money then go ahead and order them from tire rack!!

I got a magnet from Radio Shack. It is about 1" by 2" and 1/4" thick. It cost about $2 and works great. Almost any small magnet will work if it is strong enough.
