Default Tech 2 Scanner Information Please

I'm going to be getting the F45 stocks tuned out, I've read threads on disconnecting the module in the rear compartment behind the driver side. I want to show up with as much knowledge about this procedure as possible, I was hoping there was a step by step instruction thread on this.
Question are:

1) does this module stay disconnected after the de tune permanently or do you plug it back in?

2) Where does the scanner plug into? the back of car or the Obd2 port?

3) Do the shocks need to be removed for this procedure first or can I remove them after? I'm replacing them with the C6Zo6 shocks.

The idea I have is to de tune 1st on a Friday then change shocks on Saturday. Thank you for your help in this matter.

I asked my local Chevrolet Service advisor about this a few months ago, this is what I was told the following:

Once the car's computer is told the F45 option has been removed (internal programming) the only work required is to replace the shocks with the Z06 units.

Nothing needs to be unplugged (except the shocks).

He also said it was a 1 hour tech charge for the reprogramming.

That's it! I thought like you the F45 controller would need to be unplugged as well but I am told once the F45 option has been removed the computer completely ignores the controller.

I was going to dump the F45 as well but found one of the shipping blocks were still in the shock from the original owner, removed and all is well so I sticking with them a while longer.

Good Luck!

That is exactly why I ask here if you read the link below your post it clearly says to disconnect after the de programming and leave it disconnected forever or it will come back on....The 2 stealerships that we have here said they would not be able to de program anything that was factory

WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The module in the drivers side rear compartment MUST be disconnected, and IF,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, you ever reconnect it,,,,,,,,,,,,,, The BCM will re-initiate the F-45 RPO status.

Trust me! I plugged an 02 ZO6 BCM into my 98 Coupe (with RPO F-45) to troubleshoot a BCM issue and BAM,,, When I reinstalled my 02 ZO6 BCM back into the 02 Z,,, the Z had all the DTCs and messages that one would experience in a total F-45 module failure. WTF???????????

Its a good thing my 02 Z was under warranty You should have see the Stealership Techs scratching their heads on that issue!!! LMAO

So,, follow the step by step procedure and make sure that you NEVER reconnect that module!

I do not have the technical expertise to confirm or dispell this statement. I can only rely of what the Chevy service advisor said about leaving the controller as is. These people are suppost to be the experts and are trained by GM.

I have to applaude Bill for having the guts to switch BCM's between 2 different vehicles, I would have loved to see the technician's face when he saw a coupe's options on a Z06. What the hell......?

Our Corvette's are highly complex with Active handling, traction control, ABS, suspension controls all interconnected. More than likely you don't have easy access to a Tech 2 so you will have to take it to the dealership anyway for the deprogramming.

Personally, if I ever have to dump the mag/f45 system I will simply change the shocks and take it to the dealership for deprogramming and let them worry about the F45 controller. They guarantee their work and if they screw it up they will have to fix it. IMHO

Either way, what ever you decide keep us all updated to your progress and good luck!

Remove the module for more storage space. Then tape over the electrical connectors to make sure they don't make an electrical connection.

Consider yourself lucky if it's only a half hour labor. I had to get the spare key programed for our Jag and the charged a full hour...110bucks. I watched and it took them all of 10 minutes. They did wash the car though...but I felt like I was the one getting hosed.

You will be ABSOLUTY AMAZED at what the STEALERSHIP technicians DONT KNOW and the old wives tails BS that they try on our cars!

Sure,, there are the few RARE SUPER TECHS but,,, the savvy people are getting far and few!!

fendermender

After I figured out that the 98 BCM was bad, I purchased another one and had the local STEALERSHIP RPO Code it to my 98.
Yep,,, an HOUR LABOR for a 20 Min Job and get this,,,,,,,,, They TRIED to charge me a HAZORARDIOUS WASTE and OILY RAG disposal fee. I about hit the ROOF! That charge go removed!

Bill, it was almost amusing to watch. I had parked the car in front of the service area and took the one key and the spare fob in to the service writer. He filled out the work order and offered me into the waiting area. Well, being the nervous type, I started walking around the lot killing time. They sent a young man out with a white shirt and all to fetch the car. He then parked it out back of the service area where it sat for about 45min before it appeared in the service bay. Guy hooked the computer to it bada bing bada boom and next it was going through the car wash.

It was an experiance hanging around Bobby Rahaul's Jaguar dealership and seeing how the more affleunt live. I just hope it never has to go back.

Well after work today went to an alignment and shock shop that had a tech 2 I showed them the detailed instruction that I got for this awsome forum thanks to baldfart for this thread
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...-and-25-a.html

which leads to this thread thank you kokopelli
http://www.stopforce.com/RPO.html
this has step by step instructions on how to operate the tech 2.

The guy that worked on the vette was very impressed with the information I had provided, it took longer to read the instructions than the actual work. We followed them to the T, and I was charged a half hour of labor $ 49.25 Very happy to pay that. I got in and drove it past 80mph and no codes, I can't say enough about the knowledge that we noobs get on this forum. Now I have the knowledge to pass along to fellow vetters...... To 2000spirit if you decide to go this route take the time to read the threads above in my post and don't let the stealership fool you, show up with as much info as you can, saves them time and your money good luck with your choice

Good to hear that worked out. Also good for you to find a shop with the TechII that would work like that with you. My experiance with typical dealerships is they don't want the customer involved. They herd you off into a waiting area and present a bill. If the need should arise I hope I can find a shop like that.
