Default 5th Gear Grind / Not Engaging

Hi guys,
Im having some problems shifting into 5th gear. Its gotten to a point where i avoid going in there. I usually stay in 4th or 6th if im on the highway. The car is a 01 z06 with 83000 km on it.
While driving if I put it into gear and not let off the clutch I feel the shifter viberating (as if the gears are skipping), as soon as i let off the clutch it will start grinding.
If Im standing still and try to put it into 5th it automatically goes into reverse. It seems that I cannot engage it at all.
I read on the forum regarding the shifter adjustment and some people talking about bent forks? Could this possibly fix my problem, or are the symptoms more or less a 5th gear that is totally gone?

I thought I would ask to see if anyone had a similar problem with their in the past that could lead me to the right direction.
Thanks in advance for everyones help!

Sounds as though your suffering from either a damaged fork pad that allowed the synchros to get damaged to the point that they no longer allow the gear to properly engege.

Sorry for the bad news. If your looking for one of the best 6 speed guys on the planet to fix it, look no further than the supporting vendor " Rick@RKT56 "

He responded to this post. Give him a shout. He comes HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! He will be the one to tell you exactly what went wrong!!

Thanks Bill and sorry for being late to the party.

Contrary to popular belief, the shift forks do not "bend". The grinding and popping out of gear usually mean the shift fork pads are broken or missing on the 5th gear side. Unfortunately, the transmission has to be gone through. Let us know if we can help.

Default 5th gear grind

I had the same problem with my '98. The synchronizers need to be replaced. Mine was also jumping out of reverse when I put a load on the clutch. It will cost you some bucks but if you plan on keeping it the expense is well worth it.
