OK, here we go again
Friday trying to leave for work , started up the vet and pulled out of the garage and while waiting on the door to close the engine dies. Try to restart and it just spinns over and will not light off. turn the key off and remove it and then try again and it starts but will not rev up, stumbles and dies again . After a couple of time of doing this I lock it up and take the civic to work . After work I try to back it in the garage and it dies on me two or three times and I manage to get it into the garage. Shut the thing off and restart and it runs fine and revs up ok but then I get the low voltage message on the DIC. I have alreay done the ignition switch clean and reinstall about a year ago so I guess I will check the alt. output after work today (sat. ) and then if all is ok will need to get a new switch and install it. As you all know if its not one thing its something else with these vech.

Manually check the battery level with a meter and the ignition off too. Codes and battery should tell what's going on hopefully

OK , I checked the codes with my scanner and had a p1518 stored in the system , did not check with the DIC . I could not remember how to check the codes stored in the DIC so I just used my scanner. I did check the voltage at the battery and it was low 11.4 . The battery is a opt. red top and after charging on a slow charge for about two hours I rechecked it and it was at 12.5 volts. I left the meter on the battery for about three minutes and watched it drop from 12.5 to 12.40 . I did notice that the hood light was not going off while I was lowering the hood so I unpluged it and still had the battery drop. I am going to let it sit over night and recheck in the morning and see what it looks like and go from there. I either have a draw or a bad battery , only about 1 1/2 years old. Thanks for the help from the forum members , one can always count on help from the members here.

Well I have not had much time to work on the vette in a while , the wife and I have been redoing the inside of the house. I did try to check the codes on the DIC but was not able to . The dash lights up when you unlock the vech or open the door , but when you tunr the key on the dash goes blank . I'm thinking the ignition switch has taking a crap , I just have not had much time to check it out . Have charged the battery and with the hood light unpluged it stays charged but goes dead with the light plugged in. I'm thinking I have two problems but first I want to get it started and then chase the other problem after that. Thanks to all who have helped me in the past and with this problem , Its nice to have a place like this where you can get such good help from so many differant people.

thanks Richard

Thanks for links on this , I have cleaned the switch once before I guess I did not get it clean enough or the switch is bad. I will pull it out and take a look at it and maybe try again to clean it and see what happens it that dont work then I guess I will just get a new one from the dealer. Once again thanks for the help .
