I read that people remove the front tower strut brace to improve weight transfer to the back tires when launching either on street or track. I was needing to clarify if I'm going to remove the right thing and what are some negative draw backs other than handling corners. I'm also needing a how-to on how to get the one I have off. Please can someone help me. I have some races at the track going on tonight. Anything will help.
You can just disconnect the end links at the control arms if you are doing 1/4 mile stuff, but I do not recommend it. You would have to be way into the single digit low numbers to actually make a difference with the weight transfer. You would probably just end up stuffing the car into the wall half way down the track.
I already brake stand, stage deep, squeeze throttle (not mash), comp mod, and have a lot of track time. My best right now in an auto is 12.2 on street tires at 118mph with a 1.97 60ft.
You can just disconnect the end links where they attach to the lower control arms. Quick and easy. Removing the sway bar completely would drop some weight off the nose too but obviously it would be more work. It's not gonna change a huge amount but hey, everything adds up.
If you're having traction problems, beg/borrow/steal some DRs or slicks. That should be mod #1.
FYI, the C5 drivetrain lifts straight up on the front of the car so the suspension on both sides travels the same. I really don't see how removing the swaybar will do much since that's done to allow the suspension to travel differently on each side in cars which twist the chassis as they launch. If anything, just make sure the bushings are greased so it can rotate freely which would help on the street and the track.
