HUD Enabled Cluster or Not?
After selling my 99 C5 Vert back in '07 I am back on the scene with a newly acquired 99 C5 Vert, Yay!
My first vert I purchased a HUD Retrofit kit from member Pacethis and successfully installed it, but if memory serves me I did have to get a HUD enabled cluster for the retrofit. The manufacture date of that 99 vert was 06/98.
The 99 Vert that I have now has a manufacture date of 09/98, what I am asking is if there is any way to tell if the cluster is HUD enabled other than ripping out the dash and pulling it out?

I'm not positive what the break-point was in the '99 model year, but I'm thinking Sept. '98 probably is still not HUD-ready. My '99 was built in late March of '99 and I was good to go.
As far as I know, the only way to tell for sure is to eyeball the IPC to see if the connector position is installed on top of the unit. One "good" thing - if you want to call it that - is that you don't need to "rip anything out". Only the IPC needs to be removed to check, so the dash stays in the car. Remove console, remove radio trim, remove knee bolster under the steering column, lower steering column down and remove IPC.
