I removed the gauge needle on my tach to mod the gauge face and now the needle hangs. the needle will push all the way until it touches the face. I've read that it is supposed to click when it's all the way in but I dont notice any click or snap when pushing it back on.
On the start up sweep, it will go up to 7 like normal but then hang around 2 when it comes back down, and then eventually go back down to the peg.
Has anyone else run into this? have I ruined my cluster?

I'm assuming that you checked the needle itself to make sure it wasn't bent. If that's the case, it is possible that the main spindle may be slightly bent, OR....it could have been pulled out a little bit when you pulled the needle off. If you have a thin pain of needle nose pliars you might be able to fix it. Try pressing it in first and see if it moves any. If it doesn't check to make sure it's straight.
OK. Here's the deal. When pushing the needle back in, it would bottom out on the gauge face before the shaft could click back into place.
I had to disassemble the cluster assembly to access the 4 phillips head screws that attach the electromagnet to the electrical trace.
Then I pulled the shaft out of the needle and inserted it into the gauge mechanism. Using a butter knife blade, I pushed the shaft into the electromagnet until it clicked!
Put it all back together and everything works smoothly again.
Finished product. Sorry for the poor photo quality, it's a cell phone pic. This is the stock gauge face that I masked off all the white lettering and painted with a semigloss red. I was going for a Ferrari inspired look.
