Once in a while when I want a serious launch I end up free-revving the car for a bit, clutch depressed and in-gear. I've noticed it vibrates a lot in this situation. No noticeable vibration under load though, or at least not the same one.
Wondering if this is normal, or a sign of something out of balance like the clutch or the harmonic damper. Can you all tell me if your free revs are shaky or smooth like butter?
To TKDenton -- I should have specified this happens way before the rev limit, 2000 RPM or so on up. Though it gets to be less as the motor spins faster I think. As I say that, it sounds like the damper...
To Bill C -- I believe I have done it with the clutch engaged, but now I will have to go experiment. Also need to have a look at that damper. The car is a couple hours away right now so I can't look but I seem to recall it looked less that stellar last time I swapped out the serp belt.
The motor is at about 99k miles (almost to the century mark) but it does make good oil pressure and all so I believe the bottom end is still in spec. Now that I know the vibration is abnormal, I will look closer at possibile culprits (damper, motor mounts, clutch, torque tube shaft, etc.).

Reason: terminology
Naw, I'm sad to say...I just drive it a little less for now. I've got my hands full with two jobs right now (gotta make hay while the sun shines!) and I have not had the time & place to tear into it. I have a long list of mods & maintenance to make in the near term, including an underdrive pulley and a fuel filter -- the two things I think most likely to be the culprit here.
