I have always changed or try to change all gaskets whenever I could. It's a standard factory gasket you can pick up any local parts store.
I believe the thread is 7/16". An either 1-7/16" or 1-1/2" lenght.

They are plug and play if you're not real aggressive taking the stock mufflers off (assuming your replacing the stock set). You will have to get the rear of the vette real high to clear the axles but it can be done with jack stands and jack (if you don't have access to a lift).
Also, use a straight edge (board, etc.) to align the tips.
