Yesterday I had to use my headlights for the first time in a couple of months, and when I turned them on the driver's side did not pop up. I immediately turned the lights off and then on again, and this time the light popped up with no problem. I've tried them several times since then and haven't had any issues with the driver side sticking again. Is this an indication that the gear is going, or just a one-time thing because of the non-use?
If it is the gear, which vendor is it that sells the brass(?) ones?
I would say the issue is more likely the lights not being used much. When the gear goes out, it will make a loud sound like a machine gun going off under your hood when you close the lights.
Yes, it could be. Mine was sticking down and the gear was pretty chewed-up when I took it apart. If it does it again, take the arm off and rotate the motor manually 180 degrees and re-install the arm. That will likely get you years more use if you don't use them much.
Keep useing it for a few days. The gear goes out it will most likely make noies. Seems like the gear. I believe after 2001 the housing is e-poxty on to replace the gear. If you try it use the plastic factory one. I would try to find a deal on a low milage one or a good deal on a new one. Left drivers //right passenger. not hard to change They are like the window regulators use or lose.

It's not making any noises at all, so I suppose it was just the lack of use. My Vette is a 2000, so I guess for once that could be a good thing as far as replacing the gear. I'll keep an eye on it and if it does it again I'll try rotating the arm as lionelhutz suggests.
Thanks for the advice. I'll have to start using them on a regular basis as I do my passenger window to prevent sticking.
