Default FOB Training

Another newbie FOB issue - Bought two wireless entry FOB's (both used). They came with programming instructions which were the same as those in the owners manua (yes I enjoy reading that!) l Followed instructions and programmed both FOB's. While still sitting in the drivers seat, tested FOB 1 (first one programmed) and it locked and unlocked the doors but would not open the trunk. Checked FOB 2 (second one programmed as there are no numbers on them) and nothing on it worked. Went through the programming again (the programming sees both FOB's) with the same results. Also, after walking away from the car FOB 1 stops working and has to be re-programmed. Thought this was a battery issue so replaced the batteries in both FOBs with exact same results. Any other ideas out there?

What year is your Corvette and What is the part number on your FOBs...?
The earlier 1997-2000 C5's used GM 10253839 FOBs
The later 2001-2004 models use 2 different key fobs (Fob #1 and Fob #2) One might unprogram if you have 2 Key FOB #1's...

Sorry - I should have listed that info - I have a stock 2000 C5. The FOB's are GM PN 10432147. There is no 1 & 2 on them.

The number on the back has nothing to do with the programming. It's just an identifier for the user. Whichever Fob you program first will become fob 1 in the memory set up, and the second will become fob 2. You can program two 1's or 2 2's in either order and both will work in the order you programmed.. (Just to clarify, you can program a fob marked as 2 first and it becomes fob 1 in the memory set up.

In your case (2000 car) there aren't 1's and 2's and the reason you were able to buy the fobs was most likely why they were for sale. If you search on the forum you'll find multiple threads on owner's of 2000's with the exact same symptom you describe. You program it, it works and a short time later it no longer works. If you were trying to program the wrong year fob, the program would not even recognize them. The information you got earlier was incorrect. You need to purchase good working fobs to fix your problem. Previously gmpartshouse.com had them for around $70, but I heard they may be out. Call or e-mail Gene or Patrick at gmpartshouse.com and ask.

If you haven't already, read through this. Some report success with soldering for the older fobs.

65GGvert has better info than me on this one.

I checked and you have the correct part number for an 00. The numbers on the fobs started with model year 01. Looks like you have bad fobs

For 65GGVert/DeeGee - Thanks for the updates and info. Read the link 65GGVert provided and gave it a try. The FOB which would "program" but not work at all, now works (all buttons) however only for a while. Go away for ten minutes and I have to re-train it. will try this afternoon to see if it can be re-trained after sitting on the counter all night/day. The other FOB still works the same even after the re-soldering; Works until I walk away and then needed retraining also and the trunk button still did not work. I also noticed somethign else - looking at the picture that Fasthotrod posted, the FOB that doesn't work well does not have that small silver cylinder attached to the top left as looking at the picture. the one I "resurected" does have that small component (which seems to have something inside it which rattles). No evidence that it ever existed in the other FOB. Oh well - I am going to try hitting all the joints again - adding a bit of solder this time - and see if that helps. Oh - GM parts house - as well as everyone including the local dealer - is out of new ones and state that there is no ETA of replacements and that GM is saying they will not supply any more. Thanks again.

The one that has the 'bell' is from a 97-99 with passive entry. It should have a slide switch for off/on. It will program and work on a 2000 IF it is a good working fob. It sounds like you have two bad fobs. For a temporary use, try holding down the lock/ unlock buttons for a few seconds and see if you get a horn honk. (without entering the program on the DIC). If you do, the fob should work until it loses sync again. Reprogramming really doesn't help for long in these cases, you need a new fob.

Just wanted to update everyone that it would appear GM is now having transmitters made again (Taiwan, Republic of China of course) for the 2000 C5. Came in a GM geuine plastic package. Or, they do have some stashed somewhere. After three weeks of waiting for one on order through my local chevy dealer, they called yesterday and had received one. They indicated they cancelled the original order after 3 1/2 weeks and re-ordered it and it came within two days. Things that make you go hmmmmm....

Programmed it using the owners manual instructions and it works perfectly. Of course the dealer wanted me to "make an appointment" to have them program it for me....Jeeeesh..

Default FOB Training

Allow me to high-jack this thread since the OP has fixed his.

We have a "new" 2000 RED vert that came with two orginal FOB's. (Both have the original dealer's tags on them so they are not replacements). Neither work, even with new batteries.

Read the manual and tried the two button push, no horn sound and no response to the buttons. Tried with the car ON and OFF, ignition ON and OFF and same with the radio. Nothing.

Am I supposed to have the DIC on any particular display setting or any other items ON or OFF to get it to sync?

Thanks, Bob

Syncing and programming are two different things. To sync your fob you first have to do the programming. Check your manual again.

I have a question specific to this. Are there two different part numbers for Fob #1 and #2? I may need to buy another Fob #1 (missing).

Thanks,
Danny Mc?

But, either will work as a #1 or as a #2, part number is unimportant for purchase. It's only used to differentiate between the memory settings and whichever you program first will be #1, and second will be #2.
