For any "corvette shop" or individual that still doesn't believe there is a uniquely different balance relationship between the FW/PP/engine in our manual transmission corvettes, please please take a look at any of the below links. With the Wixom Performance Build center, there has finally been numerous writeups and articles about the whole LS build process including post build hot balancing. While these articles focus on Wixom, where they build LS3 dry sump, LS7, and LS9 engines (all for manual transmissions) the hot balance procedure is the same as used in the C5s (manual transmission engines).

The balance weights (when needed) are installed at the same time during the same balance prodedure. Both are used for total engine assembly fine tune balancing at the front and rear planes. The FW and PP ARE NOT balanced together as a unit BEFORE installation. They are delivered "balanced" individually from the supplier TO WITHIN CERTAIN IMBALANCE TOLERANCES. So when they are installed on the engine without being first balanced as a unit or even further balanced down better than as delivered, the weights that are added to the FW are correcting for imbalance contributions FROM ALL THREE, THE FW, PP, AND ENGINE. They do this so they can balance the entire assembly in one step instead of two or three. This means that your FW/PP combo as A UNIT is the correct match to YOUR ENGINE. Read some of the articles and think about the balancing steps.

c5vette211,
what is your exact situation? What FW/PP is in the car now? The original from the factory? If you do not have the original setup in the car or available any longer, the best thing you can do is have the new combo balanced as close to zero as possible together as a unit. This will not mimic your original setup, but will insure that the only imbalances you have left over are from the engine, which "should" be small enough to be fine for the engine, but may leave you with small vibrations you can feel. You may end up with no noticeable vibrations. You have no way of knowing which pieces contributed the most in your original setup if you no longer have them.

Let us know what is in the car now, before your install if possible.
