I have a 2004 C5 Convert which has a damaged left front inner fender panel. I bought it that way as the guy I bought it from had at least partially repaired it. According to the parts guys I have talked with, the only way to get an inner fender is to buy an entire left front wheelhouse assembly. Does anyone know whether the left front wheelhouse assembly comes glued together or does it come as 2 or more pieces. The parts guys I have talked with either don't know or say it comes as one piece. The thread by Konrad on here would seem to say it comes as 2 pieces. Anyone actually buy any of these and actually know?
The car is driveable, but I would like to have it repaired correctly. The engine side of the left front wheelhouse assembly is in good shape, it is just the part which seals against the fender. It a next winter project.
It shows pictures and looks like they may have used versions. I also have had good luck looking on C5 parts and looking for cars that are being parted out. I just picked up a front air dam and cowl cover for a reasonable price.
I feel for you man. My right front wheel well has asphalt/tar splashed around it from the previous owner. It's hard as rocks and I'd like to clean it up. Might take a grinder to it one day.
Bud,,,,,,,,,,,,,, That inner fender I one GIANT part. The Parts that are shown separately are the access panel that allows access to the PCM/TAC Module and the fender vent opening splash deflector. The access panel is easily removed once you remove the front tire.
That MAIN inner fender is epoxy "BONDED" to the FRAME in ONE PART! Its critically aligned and then bonded. If there is any way possible that you can repair the one that in there, do it. If not,, you have a LOT of work to do.
Scroll to 3.7 Outer Wheelhouse Replacement. I assumed this is what the OP is talking about. If this is the only part damaged, it can be replaced much easier than doing the whole assembly. Best bet is used though as GM only sells the whole service assembly AFAIK.
Thanks for the help everyone, I do not want to pull the whole wheelhouse assembly, so I will try to find a good used one near Tucson, as shipping on used parts makes the used part almost as much as new.
I have a drivers door to adjust and a front bumper cover to repair, but seems like lots of info on here for those tasks.
Very much appreciated
If someone would cut that section off an otherwise damaged panel, I don't think the shipping would be that bad. I went and looked and, as luck would have it, I have the right outer in great shape. But mine was hit on the left corner and that side is cracked badly. You can bet I'll be saving the right section.
Maybe check with Marc at Vettenuts and see if he has the left section. In any case...Good Luck!
