Default Header and Cam Questions???

I have been looking into a cam set up for my 03 z06 my car has 62000 miles. To explain what I am looking for i want to be able to hear my cam but i want to keep my fuel mileage as close to factory as i can for trips and such! My car is stock except a K&N air filter and a b&b prt axle back system. I am going to install a set of LG longtube headers with x-pipe and no cats a local speed shop said he would recommend a comp x street cam and would install the cam headers and all fluids and gaskets involved with a dyno tune for 6200 bucks which i thought was kind of high! So i think i may just install myself. So can anyone recommend a cam for my situation! i will also be changing valve springs and timing chains and such! This is what jegs recommended any input would be appreciated!

Pretty small cam! You can go WAAAAAAAY bigger ......lots of guys with 400+ rwhp with just a cam change on a Z06...... crazy high price too! You can get a super charger for that kind on money!! Should be less than 2 grand for the cam/springs etc installed and tuned, and around the same or less for a good header/exhaust system installed...

That cam would not be an upgrade from the current cam in your Z06. It has slightly more duration, but less lift.

I personally went with the 228R cam, which is a very popular choice. It adds noticable power everywhere and has a good lope at idle. My fuel mileage around town is a little lower because I always have my foot in it. But on the highway I still get 33+ mpg on a long cruise. Still drives like stock.

.525 lift suggested for a a 2002-2004 Z06............and socialism is a catalyst for free market capitalism, wow.

google "Patrick G" to get a good combo or use this simple checklist before taking ANY cam suggestions

Do you run single digit ET's in the quarter?
Did you go to SAM in Houston(most cases)?
Do you build LS motors for a living with a proven track record?

I'm all done here, I consult Don Kinder, Arun, or Bret Bradbury

many ideas

But IMO unless you put in something in the 22x range do not open you engine.

224 / 228 .581 / .588 on a 113

you will also need to new push rods, springs and timing chain

Good Luck

Our 226/230 cam work real nice

This are the results on a C5-non Z06, Z06 would make more power.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/perf...-baby-cam.html

Our stage 2 blower cam 226/238 has a nice lope and not give up much as far as fuel economy either.

We are having a cam/spring/pushrod sale next week for $750.00

Check out Texas Speed.

Good prices, package deals. Quick tech support.
Told me within 5hp how much I would be making with the package I bought. They also told me what NOT to waste money on.

01 z06 with lingenfelter cam and air intake manifold, cold air intake with a B&B axle back with a makeshift xpipe that is running glass packs. Making 422rwhp. I'd recommend lingenfelter cam I have the one with a 118 ls so it doesn't have huge "cam" sound but makes a **** ton of hp for what it is. Just installed my kooks headers and xpipe and waiting to get it tuned to see the new numbers. My tuner said I should be around 440 or higher so I can't complain about the cam at all haha.

I know of one in Norfolk not sure what reasonable is to you though.... But I would look more into doing most of the work yourself. From what you said earlier in the thread it didnt sound like you would mind getting your hands dirty so start reasearching and find out the ins and outs based on your situation and skill set there is a write up for everything, then do a mail order tune when you have it torn apart.

patg specs some pretty good stuff... I would contact him or we can grind you a custom cam to meet your needs... 450 for the cam shipped and then as stated your going to need valve sprngs and pushrods.. might want to think about the oil pump while your there and timing chain as well.
