My fobs (both) when I got my 98 were not working. After reading some info here in the search on synching them, I stood outside the car today and pushed the unlock/lock buttons at the same time. The car horn beeped. Now every time I get close to the car with the fob that I got working, the car does one short beep until I get out of range. Did I do something wrong or do I need to resynch this fob another way?

There is a switch for passsive mode on the FOB....see what position it's in.
Also, my '99 has the passive switch as well. I discovered that simple pocket dust getting through the switch slider, will turn on the passive function even though the switch is off. Blow it out and slide it on and off a couple of times, usually worked for me.
As previous poster said, sometimes it isn't off when it should be. Slide the switch quickly back and forth several times and see if that helps your honking. (leave it "off" after you slide it)
