The car is an 02Z. The problem: for the past few months it has had an issue starting. Everything lights up and come on, but then nothing happens. The car does not make any noise that I can hear. Then if I jiggled the keys a little in the ignition it would start. Well today it would not start. I was on a different thread and someone mentioned pulling the ignition and attempt to fix/clean the connections, so I did that and still no start. I pulled the codes as shown on a thread in this forum, and nothing came up other than what was indicated on the site would come up

I checked the security light after turning the key to on and it turns off as it should. I am thinking that the ignition is going to need replacing. Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so what did you do to resolve it. I thinkng that if I replace the ignition, thats going to mean new keys (probably not cheap). Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated. And my thanks to those on the other thread (Bill Curlee and 8vette7 in particular) that attempted to help out.

Reason: add names and codes
You can rebuild your C5 Ignition switch. The ignition switch and the LOCK CYL are two different parts that can be separated (as per the service manual procedure) You DO NOT need a new key.
Just install the old Cyl lock into the new switch. If you rebuild your own switch,, you wont need to worry about the cyl lock set at all.
Well, I have replaced both the ignition switch and the cylinder lock and still nothing. The locksmith said the keys looked a bit worn and that could be the problem, so I have two of those on order. Hopefully that will solve the problem.
I had this same intermittent issue for a long time. Cleaned the switch several times to no avail.
New key cut, not fixed.
Put in another starter, not fixed.
Replaced the entire lock cylinder assembly and the issue was finally solved. Hasn't happened again in over a year. My old thread should be out there somewhere.....it was the pellet reader circuit causing my issues.
Oh yeah, that new starter listed above now runs for a bit after the car is running (intermittently)....time for a new solenoid I guess.

Hopefully mine will be just the opposite, since I just replaced the both the ignition switch and lock cylinder to no avail. The keys are the last thing in that group that are left.
As I mentioned in the initial post, I use to be able to jiggle the key in the lock cylinder and it would start. Thats kind of why I feel that the culprit is one of these three items. Atleast I hope so.

OP Stated that the SECURITY LIGHT goes OFF when the key is inserted so,,,,,,,,, sounds like its not a security issue. The real way to resolve this issue is to break out the schematic and the meter and get some facts:
I can solve HALF of the issue:
Readings at the heart of the system (Theft Deterrent Relay) is where you need to look:

Well the entire ignition has been replaced and still nothing, I guess it is time for the professionals to look at it. I was hoping to save some money doing it myself, probably ended up spending more. Oh well, thanks for the help.
