Good day everyone. I am looking at replacing the oem water pump from my 98 coupe. I was given the following information for a new water pump: AC Delco (part # 19195105).
Would I need to also purchase the housing for this water pump and would this water pump housing be the new style that has the housing and tstat seperate?
I was looking at going aftermarket on the tstat but before I order the pump I want to make sure what I will need for the tstat and what type of tstat to get.
I replaced mine in my 02Z a year or so ago. It was pretty easy after readng the how to here on the forum. I did not buy a new tstat.
Make sure you torqe the bolts properly as it will leak if you don't.
My questions was, if i purchase that water pump will it be the new style with the stat and housing separate? I want to make sure I get the housing if that is the case and but an aftermarket stat
I would suggest buying a GM waterpump. The reason I say this is because with a blower kit, my belt spun an advance auto waterpump so hard it spun the black bell right off the shaft.
Come on guys, someone has to have the answer for me. By the way...to the previous poster if you read the original post, it states the answers I am looking for are to a gmt pump.
Do I need the tstat housing when purchasing the water pump or not?
You asked this question several times and deserve the correct answer.
Call Gene Culley at GM Parts House at 484-949-2099....he is a nice guy and has most of the correct answers.
Am I not stating my question correctly or what? I don't need comments on whether it is a good idea to go with a GM water pump or not. I have a specific question in the original post I still need answered!
My guess is yes. Here is the note from Rock Auto....
ACDELCO Part # 251744 {#19256263} OE Design; Stamped Steel Impeller; May require the use of housing 15-11057 and bolts 15-75247 (2)
PUMP KIT,WAT WHEN REPLACING 89018053, USE TOGETHER WITH 12600172 INLET Assembly (QTY 1) AND 11516480 BOLT (QTY 2)
That note is only on the 98 year parts list and not on the 2004 year parts list. That 12600172 thermostat housing is for newer vehicles so I'd say this pump is a later model pump with a newer style thermostat and housing.
Say "thank you"

I replaced the water pump on my97 about 5 years back. I went with a stock lifetime replacement from Autozone.I know there are haters on anything but GM pumps but I've got 5 years and lots of miles out of it so far....... To hopefully answer your question I reused Tstat / housing / O ring from the old pump,no leaks or issues.
I'm pretty sure the new style LS3 water pump can also be used. It seems a little better/cleaner design and uses a more "traditional" type Tstat. I'm guessing as time passes this will replace all the original style LS1 water pumps.
The gaskets looked over torqued. I was shocked that they weren't the cause of the original leak.
No it does not come with the stat housing or stat regardless where you buy your water pump.
Your 98 may have a bolt on pulley where the new design have a pressed type. either will work on your car.
You should be able to either swap you current stat and housing.buy a new stat housing with the pressed stat already in it or
buy the separate stat and housing design. All will fit the pump.Make sure you get the metal gasket with the rubber seal. some of the chain store water pump will only include paper gaskets. Good Luck. A PITA of a job!
